Oh dear. And perhaps thats where I went wrong? I am in fact using a desktoop, Compaq Presario SR1560AN. I tryed to find the drivers, but can never seem to get the right ones. The majority of links I follow, suggest I use a floppy disk, but my pc doesnt have a floppy disk drive thats why I was so pleased with this link (no floppy required).

which laptop are you using? i guess you might need the specific drivers of your hard drive.try to download from your hardware vendor website and integrate as shown above.

Hi, I followed your instructions exactly and dvd came out as you said it would. However as soon as try to install windows and I enter set up again (on windows set up) – it goes through the whole process until I hit the screen Windows XP Home Edition Setup – The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartioned space on this computer. Then it states

unknown disk
There is no disk in this drive (about 4 times)

Then the bsod with Problem detected windows shut down, problem caused by following file: setupdd.sys.
page_fault_in_nonpaged_area

Basically no matter what I do, I cant seem to find my hard drives. Please help

I wuz tearing my hair out for 3 days, trying other methods. Some wer the same as this, but badly written, so they didnt work. I was going to give up & put up with Vista, but thanks to you, i dont have to.

MY PROBLEM IS THAT THIS PROCESS MAKES AN ISO FILE OF AROUND 765 MB..AND IN A CD WE CAN WRITE A FILE OF MAX 700 MB..SO WRITING THIS ON A DVD AND THEN PROCEEDING WILL BE ABLE TO INSTALL XP PROPERLY OR NOT???

John, sweet success , I’ve managed to enable achi mode using this guide

After previous attempts I already had the ‘iatu87enu’ file unpacked ( which is the one you need for the acer 7730) so substitute this for the one in the guide

Once you have the file unpacked go from here in the guide where he says “NOW GO TO DEVICE MANAGER”

Deez . i have exactly the same problem as you. Downgraded acer aspire 7730 to xp. Mainly music making pc. Booted up . installed all my music making programs. Had installed a 2nd WD scorpio 7200 hardrive. Wondered why i was getting problems playing back lots of audio tracks from this drive. realised i had put bios into ide when installing xp. NOw cannot switch it back . Tried a few of the enabling achi tutorials alos but i dont think they are specific to the acer 7730 chipset. I am also gonna try what ginger said and nlite the disk…. i could cry though as have spent the last two days getting evertying else the way i liked it……..

thanx for the reply. I’m a bit short of time for now and am finding that working xp in the ide mode seems to have no obvious practical drawbacks.

it is possible to nlite xp onto the aspire 7730, you need to look up the driver for the mobo chipset on the intel website and nlite that into the xp disk.

[http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProductID=2991&DwnldID=17269&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng]
should get you to the zip file that contains the drivers that are intended to be put onto a floppy to load the raid drivers during xp setup.

Nlite those onto your disk and you are away.

and this works with acpi.

has anyone been successful with a ‘how to enable ahci after installing xp in ide’ tutorial

(for clever clogs or to whom it may concern) i also find it quite easy to follow instructions but not every computer environment is the same

ps can you indicate which version of nlite was used in this tutorial as the latest version has some different options as shown in this guide

i tried to download an earlier version of nlite to match this tutorial but although links are available they only result in the latest version 1.4.9.1

unfortunately acer do not provide xp driver support for this model

I have found drivers in other places for the 7730

I have tried many ways in which to get this job done but nothing seems to really work

I have xp on at the mo but the bios is in ide for the HD

I think the best road for me is to crack one of the ‘how to enable ahci’ tutorials’

didn’t work for me I’m afraid

nlited the disk ok

my acer aspire 7730 didn’t like it though

after a couple of minutes into setup I got this message

“A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time…………………

Technical Information 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0×00000000, 0×00000000

I got this message before when trying to install xp without sata support but the drivers suggested here definitely were intergrated within the nlited disc

Back to square one for me.. The only way Ive put xp on this rig is to select ‘ide’ over ‘achi’ in the bios, not the best way methinks
