How to make a Bootable XP CD

imo the best way to create a bootable xp cd is by using nlite or windows unattended cd creator(my favourite)

things required :

i assume you have the following.

  • blank/empty cd
  • latest version of nlite (get it here) or windows unattended cd creator(get it here)
  • microsoft windows xp cd (you can’t get it here :-) )
  • latest service pack(you can get it here)
  • if you have not yet installed .net framework 2.0 get it here.(required for nlite)
  • nero or any image burning software (i use nero)
  • cd/dvd writer
  • atleast 800 mb of free space

step 1:

copy the contents of microsoft xp cd to any folder in your hard disk.let us call it “xp”.

step 2:

start nlite. click on next button.now browse to folder “xp”.

nlite,boot cd

step 3:

click on next button.select all.and again click on next button.

step 4:

now slipstream the service pack you downloaded into the installation.select the service pack exe file from your hard disk.

step 5:

click next and again next.copy the drivers from your driver cd to any location in hard disk.click on insert. select multiple driver folder.select all.click next

step 6:

select the components you want to remove from the installation.click next

step 7:

select fully automated option in the drop down for unattended mode.enter the product key, you will find it on your xp cover pack.xlpore this window for customizing it further.click next till you get the tweak section.you can select various registry tweaks here.click next

step 8:

click yes to start the process.click next.click on make iso button.you will be asked to save the iso image.now close nlite.

step 9:

open nero or any other burner.insert blank cd in to cd-rom.burn the saved image.now restart the computer.go to bios select “boot from cd” option.save the settings and exit from bios.

you should see “press any key to boot from the cd……”message

you have now successfully created a bootable xp cd.
