why portforwarding ?
portforwarding enables you to get better torrent speeds. although the torrent speed depends upon number of seeders and leechers, portforwarding plays a main role in getting high torrent speeds!. experience download speed at maximum speed after portforwarding your modem!!
for old firmware visit here.
how to portforward your bsnl/dataone ut300r2u modem?
you need:
- a torrent client like microtorrent (my favourite)
- a browser: firefox( again my favourite)
when you open the torrent client for the first time ,you will asked to test the ports to get optimum speeds(shown below)
most of the times the it wont be portforwarded and you would be directed to www.portforward.com. although most of the times the site helps you in port forwarding ,it didn’t work everytime for me.sometimes it would work and sometimes it wudn’t.there was no REALIABILITY . however it did help me partially.
the following method works everytime for me.
- start torrent client.(read Utorrent).
- then in the menu bar…OPTIONS>>PREFERENCES>> CONNECTION as shown below
- uncheck enable upnp port mapping as shown, note down the random port number it will be used later. click apply and then ok as shown. now close torrent client
ACCESSING THE ROUTER /MODEM PAGE:
- now open any browser.type 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.1 in the address bar to log into modem/router page as shown below
- enter the username as admin and password as admin and click ok as shown above.that should get you to routers page.
- once you are in the routers page click on advanced tab as shown below.
- click on the virtual server button as shown below
- fill the details in the page.let PRIVATE IP = 192.168.1.136, PROTOCOL=ANY, LOCAL PORT=port number you noted down earlier, select single port from drop down and click apply as shown below.you will see that virtual server list is updated.
- now close the browser
- now click START>>MY NETWORK PLACES>>VIEW NETWORK CONNECTIONS
- right click on your LOCAL AREA CONNECTION>>PROPERTIES
- click on INTERNET PROTOCOL(TCP/IP)>>PROPERTIES as shown in the figure
- click on use the following IP address and enter the details as shown above.
- i am using open dns server address.you can also use bsnl dns server address but they are more subject to downtime compared to open dns server address. and this guide is not tested on bsnl dns server addresses.
- click ok to close both the windows.
here lies the catch……….
the above instructions are also given in the portforward.com. now open the browser and start surfing. if you can browse the internet pages its well and good. portforwarding is done successfully.
if you cannot browse the internet, don’t worry just restart the system.now you should be able to browse the internet .start the torrent client now.
you should be seeing a image similar to below image.
if you see the yellow triangle the port is not forwarded yet.go back to ACCESSING ROUTER/MODEM PAGE step above and redo the changes till you create a virtual server.no need to make changes in local area connection.you need not restart this time.
just start the torrent again. click on the place where you see the yellow triangle, the speed guide window should pop up.select TEST IF PORT FORWARDED PROPERLY button as shown below.
- now the browser opens automatically ,and you should see the following page
now the port has been forwarded properly.
Note:
- you may have to create virtual server every time you start your system. but its better than having low speed downloads.
- i have connected to internet using usb port.and this guide is not tested on ethernet port ,i tried using ethernet,it works fine.the only thing you need to change is default gateway which is 192.168.1.1.please try the above method once, tell me if anything goes wrong.
- visit portforward.com for more detail.:
worst case solution:
if this guide doesn’t work for you and you badly need high torrent speeds, then in the advanced tab of router page ,you have dmz (demilitarised zone) button. click on the button. you will be required to enter the the internal ip address(which can be obtained by running ipconfig/all at command prompt).
this opens up all the ports of your system to external world.it’s very RISKY(NOT RECOMMENDED) though.when i tried this the moment i opened the ports thru dmz option i was infected with loads of spyware and adware.my desktop wallpaper changed automatically and seconds later my system went on restarting,so beware!!
testing on different types of modems very soon………..
i dont have virtual server option, what should i do?
please follow nsn155′s answer below.
alright people, this for those they do not have virtual server option , all u have to do is change your modem settings to bridge connection.
initially it will set as ppoemode.first save u r modem current settings at management>settings.backup.
after u have done tht now move to advanced setup>wan>
now u will see a table. click remove on every line, and then click remove on bottom of the page, and then save/reeboot.
next after u modem is reset, again go to advanced setup>wan>u will see a table ,click edit on the first row ie pppoee row
click next, click bridging ,next, next…. and then save /reboot.
now go to control panel>networkconnections> create a new connection
click next>connect to the internet>setup manually>connect using a broadband connection which uses a username and password> click next>next>and complete the process.
and now in ur network connections u will see a new connection.click on it and enter the details and u r good to go.
and now ports will be open.happy downloading at super high speedssssss.
it will work,so dont worry. if it does not change u r modem settings as they were previously orrrrrrrr call 23234770 which is tech office of bsnl. and ask them how to change u r connection to bridge mode.

i explored my settings and found that bridging mode is ideal for cscz server setup using hlds. i got linux ubuntu in which i can’t or i don’t know how to configure PPoEE id and pass..i wan’t to set my username and pass in my modem itself..modem model UT300RTU..now when i type 192.168.1.1 in address bar..we usually get a id and password field…but instead i get page cannot be displayed..i tried to reset my modem too..not working…help needed its very urgent…i gotta update my brand new Linux ubuntu..thank you in advance
i think many had the same problem before..but the admin couldn’t understand it..or they didn’t describe it properly
@kesavan
what is cscz server and hlds?
if you are using ethernet to connect to modem and computer then 192.168.1.1 should open up the modem page on the browser.
if you are using usb to connect then i think you need to install the linux drivers supplied with the modem ,correct me if i am wrong.
try configuring the modem on a windows computer and then use on linux.it should work
i havent tried portforwarding on linux.
counter strike condition zero is cscz..hlds is half life dedicated server….i am using ethernet to connect to modem and computer…i am now using in windows only, but my modem is in bridging mode…i need to put it in ppoee before i can use it in linux…but when i try to open the modem settings using 192.168.1.1 it says page cannot be displayed..and my operating system is Windows Vista Home edition..its genuine..
are you using any router along with bsnl modem?
did u try 192.168.1.2 ?
how to do port forwarding in bsnl usb connection……… I got a usb connection of BSNL… Please help
hi guys thnx nsn155 and admin for info
i configured the bridge connection still in torrent the test to check port forward is failing…plz help
also please tell me the method to load the saved back up file of bsnl dsl router configeration. thnx in advance…
Hi,
great article!!!
earlier i configured it through DMZ, but considering the risks (discussed here), i now am running in bridge mode. and speeds? toooooooooo fast. earlier i used to get only around 25-30 kbps but now its like 80-100 kpbs. so thanks a lot to admin n my dear nsn
But one problem: m unable to open 192.168.1.1. yes same problem, page unavailable. If i reset the modem from that button provided at the rear, would it restore to the default in pppoe mode? yes, i took backup while in pppoe mode. please help in this direction.
and one more thing: earlier in pppoe mode, the connection was all time on. But in bridge mode, do i need to connect each and every time i want to use net? What should i do if i want it like before (all time connected).
Thanks a lot for this great help
and also since i schedule all my downloads in nights, if i standby my pc in bridge mode, and then again power-on, the connection goes off, and i need to reconnect this manually, which is not going to work for me as earlier my pc used to do this automatically. please help…
It was an excellent reading.I added your rss to my rss reader!
no it won’t work if you restore the modem…i myself figured out the conflict..the problem is the dialer and the modem which is a networking device uses the same ip…you might notice some thing like unindentified connection or sort of.. if you have vista you can diagnose and renew the ip…then you can log on to 192.168.1.1
Thanks alot for this great post !
Julie.
after portforwarding its all kk ..thanx to nsn155…i also required y now and then connection fails ….due to bridge connection…..so after this i hav to reconnect …then only it connects and works ..but main pbm is it get connection abrupt cut ..so that it take time to regain its speed when it was downloading bfor…in utorrent only…wat i hav to do …some one comment plssssssssss
all ok …but connection failure occurs regularly…if it is in bridge connection..anyone pls replyyyyyyyyyyyy soon pls …
The problem of disconnection, may be arising due to the fact that the connection is being given parallely.
The is connection is being splitted before it gets to the wallport. The connection which we get from outside of the house is given to the wallport(the white box).
from there it is given it is given to the splitter from which one goes to the telephone and the other to ur modem.
please check the way ur connected and try to connect as above specified and see whether u encounter the above problem.
if u have not understood the above refer to QUICK START GUIDE which get along with the modem.
really useful information. Thanks for helping me out!
really a gr8 article, hats off to nsn and admin
Thanks a million admin!!! I found your article very helpful!! I’m also grateful to nsn155 for sharing his advice for those who don’t have a virtual server option… I found the steps he provided very helpful. Thanks again guys
Thanks a lot!!!!. Since i got hooked to utorrent, i have tring to gather info on port forwarding. All said that static ip is required. Airetel provides this . But when i called up BSNL they said static ip is provided only for Rs 3000 and above plans.
Today one of my friends forwarded this link. When i saw the 1st half, i told him that i’ve seen this (this is a screen shot of probably an MTNL connection). But when i scrolled down, i had the required info.
You can’t imagine how happy i’m to have been able to configure the modem for top speed. Thanks
Thanks again
shibu

Flashed Wrong Firmware on UTStarcom WA3002G4 ADSL 2+ Router/Modem? – Don’t worry!
___________
Hello there,
I would like to share my experience in fixing my UTStarcom WA3002G4 ADSL 2+ router/modem after having flashed it with some wrong default firmware present in the CD that came along with that modem purchased from BSNL. You can directly jump onto the steps if you don’t want to be bothered about my bitter experience in figuring out the feasible way to flash and the assumptions I have made therein.
EXPERIENCE :
Though there are innumerable posts/threads in the internet on this, it was a hard time to figure out the exact steps to fix – flash my UTStarcom WA3002G4 ADSL 2+ router/modem with an appropriate firmware. Because, each of the threads/posts discussed about the steps to be followed in a discrete manner – leaving out some intermediate steps to follow. Of course, there would have been assumptions about the intermediate steps therein, but for an impatient person like me that approach seemed to be inadequately helpful.
Well, enough of talking, let me tell you the steps I followed by which my UTStarcom WA3002G4 modem/router was reborn!
ASSUMPTIONS :
Assumptions made(rather the state of my router/modem with the wrong firmware!) :
1) Power LED is steadily lit.
2) DSL LED is not lit(there is something about this DSL LED and Limited or No Connectivity I need to share. I will share in the end – Don’t want to obstruct the flow).
3) No other LEDs are lit(duh!)
4) You get Limited or No connectivity as the connection status after the wrong firmware flash. And yeah, you will see some fake IP-Address assigned by DHCP(not actually).
5) After the modem/router is powered on and when you see the “Limited or No Connectivity”, 192.168.1.1 is unreachable when you ping(Again, duh!)
6) But, only while the modem/router is booting(just after the power up action), you could see a TTL value of 100 received by the ping action(ping -t 192.168.1.1). The value 100 means that the boot loader is alive! Thank God! So, only task left is to restore the firmware and let the boot loader load that firmware – yeah, more of unnecessary info I am sharing – But, for the sake of clarity, I am compelled to do so!
**** STEPS TO RE-FLASH A WRONGLY FLASHED UTSTARCOM WA3002G4 MODEM/ROUTER ****
Here we go. Simple steps followed :
1) Connect the router/modem to PC using ethernet cable and have the power adapter connected to the router/modem as well.
Now, in your PC browser keep on refreshing the page 192.168.1.1.
2) Power on(duh!).
3) Manually assign a static IP-Address to your PC(Any IP-Address would do as per my experience, say 192.168.1.3) with subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Don’t worry about other stuffs – Default Gateway, Preferred DNS, Alternate DNS, blah blah – Let them be blank. No problem. Now the connection status should be “connected” instead of “Limited or No Connectivity”.
4) Switch off the router/modem using the power button at the back.
5) Keep the hard-rest button(micro-switch accessible through a round pin-hole/tiny hole at the bottom of the modem/router near its right-leg(cushion) – Easily, this tiny hole can be missed amidst the square holes present to help in the ventilation) pressed with a refill/ball-point pen tip.
6) Switch on the router/modem using the power button at the back – Keep it pressed for 2 secs before releasing – Better not to use technique – Plug-out and plug-in the adapter from socket – Reason? I will share in the end – Don’t want to obstruct the flow.
7) After a short while(few secs), you will be able to see the ping command displaying receiving so and so bytes etc with a TTL value of 100(boot loader is up!).
9) You must see a page asking to “choose a file” to upload the appropriate firmware – At this juncture I chose the BSNL Dataone firmware I had downloaded and my browser(Chrome) showed the progress of the upload in its bottom-left corner. There after it started showing the page with the information indicating it will take about 2 mins to flash the uploaded firmware and that the modem/router will automatically reboot thereafter(You should see the change in connection status from Network cable unplugged to plugged to Connected with Limited or No Connectivity as we yet don’t have the DSL connection in place once the flashing is done and the router/modem reboots).
10) That’s it. The router/modem is reborn! \m/ If needed, reboot(soft-reset using the power button at the back) once and you shall be able to access the much needed 192.168.1.1 – Time to celebrate! Note that the hard-reset button has to be kept pressed all these while(1-9 if needed until 10th step also). Otherwise, the boot-loader will move ahead and try to load the wrong firmware unaware of its incorrectness! Yeah, continuous ping(ping -t 192.168.1.1) replies with TTL 100 is very crucial to the success of the flash.
**** STEPS TO RE-FLASH A WRONGLY FLASHED UTSTARCOM WA3002G4 MODEM/ROUTER ****
Left over information which I thought would obstruct the flow all these while :
Well, now let me tell you the issue that I told of obstructing the flow all these while. It’s about the Connection Status – “Limited or No Connectivity”. Whenever I plug-out and plug-in the adapter from socket, no doubt the router/modem reboots automatically on its own as its power button would still be in pressed state. But, the IP-address assigned by DHCP(actually not) will be a fake one – 169.something.something.something and the connection status would be “Limited or No Connectivity”. The funny thing is the DSL LED would be well lit at this point! This same fake indication – DSL LED being lit happens also when the modem/router(when in powered off state) power button is pressed and released very fast – in a second. This very issue provoked me to re-flash my router with any firmware I had(invariably, I had a wrong one)! And the annoying Limited or No Connectivity I expected not to reappear once re-flashed. To me additional annoyance, the router/modem breathed its last breath when I fed it with poison in the form of wrong firmware.
Okay, though the above “Limited or No Connectivity” is very much prevalent even after re-flashing when the above actions(plug-out and plug-in, and power outage and restore), my UTSTARCOM WA3002G4 modem/router is back in action after my 5-6 days of mental agony and struggle, saving some money as well!
Hope this helps someone in future if at all has same problem, though its lengthy and has some unnecessary info here and there!
For those who would be wanting to know the firmware I have used, here is the full file name – 3.08.BSNL_02.01.02_tr64._fs_kernel, size : 1.86 MB (1,953,751 bytes) and size on disk : 1.86 MB (1,953,792 bytes).
Cheers,
Raghavan
PS : The “Limited or No Connectivity” issue has been discussed at great length across the internet. But, I have no luck after trying all sorts of things – especially, the approach involving the assignment of static IP-Address, sub-net masks, freely available public DNS server address. I somewhere read that it might be related to the voltage provided by the power adapter, though not sure and also haven’t thought of replacing it either. Let me know if anyone has a working solution for this.
