INSTALLING XP ON HP DV2601TX.

this tutorial is about installing xp on special edition hp dv2601tx and hp dv 2701tx.it is 100% working .

i just cant keep track of how many times we tried to install xp on this lappy.xp installed fine ,but  finding and installing drivers was a nightmare.we dont know how many weekends we sacrificed to achieve this.we learnt a lot of things in this process.and finally ravi came up with this method.

i was wondering how change in the deployment method can influence a system installation.i guess i found the answer.

when we installed the drivers separately (manually),we did not follow any order .

In this method ,system itself  takes the required drivers in the required order since all the drivers are already present in the media.(cd/dvd).and hence works evrytime without fail. :)

the bottomline is we learnt the things  the hardway. that is the reason for this tutorial.

things required

:

  • Windows Xp cd
  • Blank/empty cd
  • Nlite get it here
  • Winrar get it here
  • Drivers given below
  • Sata drivers get it here
  • Intel Chipset get it here
  • Nvidia Graphics:               get it here
  • Marvell Yukon ethernet get it here
  • ALPs Touchpad get it here
  • HP Quick Launch buttons and Quick Play.                                                           get it here.
  • For the modem, fingerprint and HP Quick Launch use your Vista driver.      get it here
  • Bioscrypt VeriSoft Access Manager get it here.
  • Audio Drivers uaa .  (universal audio architecture) get it here
  • Conexant high definition audio driver get it here

step 1:

first of all download all the drivers from the link given above in to a folder.after downloading all the drivers into a folder it should luk similar to image shown below.

installing xp on hp2601tx

step 2:

install winrar software on your computer if it is not yet installed.

step 3:

right click on the setup icon, you should see an option “extract to (filename)”.select it.you should see a new folder with extracted drivers in it .the image below should give some idea.

repeat the same step for all driver files.

after extracting the all the driver files, you should be having several folders with extracted drivers inside it as shown below.

step 4:

install nlite if it is not yet installed.

step 5:

start nlite. (if you are not familiar with nlite ,read this simple tutorial about integrating drivers here.)

step 6:

mount the drivers which you have extracted as shown below.

select drivers option and bootable iso ,and others if necessary.

step 7:

click on insert and select multiple driver folder as shown above.

select folders where your extracted drivers are located as shown above.

select all items and click ok as shown above.

you should see a list of drivers as shown above ,after you have selected all drivers for integration.

step 8:

now click on next and proceed usually as shown in the other tutorial.

after the step 8 is completed ,you will have xp bootable cd with all the drivers integrated.

now install xp usual way.

95% of the time, downgrading to xp is possible.
have you tried it before?how far have u achieved?where exactly are you stuck?
you can follow the above steps but in place of those drivers ,you will have to use yours.
from what i know, yours is a amd machine.so many of these drivers wont work.

    get your xp drivers here,first.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3357853

you will be lacking graphics drivers, sound and wireless drivers, for which you will have to search in the hp forums.

I have been facing an issue when trying to install XP on the Dv2601tx laptop. I get a blue screen of deathduring the initial stage of installation. If I press the F7 key during installation, XP loads fine but the ACPI feature gets disabled. Once the laptop is setup, I have to manually switch off like with the old AT systems. Any idea of how to overcome this obstacle?

we finally installed xp on hp2601tx after reaching the state you have described thru comment.and that is the usual way of installing xp.
    instead,
TRY the method i have explained ,only then you will be able to install xp perfectly.
the only thing you have to do now is to TRY THE METHOD EXPLAINED ABOVE.

you can install drivers separately after installing windows xp ,but most of the times, wifi, bluetooth and battery drivers won’t work.you can try once,no harm though.

i think the xp cd from which you are copying must be corrupt.try with a new xp cd.

thank you verymuch admin. you did very very great job and i have seen many blogs but this blog is very user friendly.. you are life saver man!!!
just one suggestion, as you have prepared this for dv2601tx, you can upload its all drivers to one file to mediafire or something and then it will be more user friendly..

now i’ve got one problem. i downloaded and install the drivers for audio UAA and conexant as you have given here. UAA installed correctly but conexant audio drivers are not installing. also in my device manager there are four items having yellow question mark. one is network adapter and other three are same some bus driver.

i also try to install modem but its also not installed. also blue tooth and wireless can not be installed. these all i tried after installing xp. as i couldnt inject them by NLITE.

any help will be greatly appriciated
    thanks

    @raship
i am glad you liked the blog.
i will upload all the drivers in a single file somewhere very soon and it would be great if any readers could do it and send me the link .
    possible solution for your problem

you should be able to integrate all drivers thru nlite.did u get any error messages while integrating?
    1) in the device manager ,wherever you find yellow question mark ,right click and click on update drivers and give location of your driver folder to update from it
    OR
go to microsoft help and support and choose online support where you can search for available drivers and you will definitely get ethernet and conexant drivers.

i think i havent given bluetooth and wireless drivers so wait a little more time .:)

    dear admin,

i have the same laptop,hp dv2601tx and i have downloaded all the drivers you have mentioned from their respective links. But i fail at the very first step, i cannot see the same folders being created when i extract the zip files in their respective folders. i see folders being created with different names, but i have strictly followed your download links.
How can i show shot of the drivers that i have downloaded. Or if please you can do a favour , upload these drivers and let us download them. I will be grateful to you

    Thanks

    Dear admin

One thing more When i go to

“For the modem, fingerprint and HP Quick Launch use your Vista driver”

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3545116&lang=en

I see a lot of other drivers, which particular drivers should i download from this link.
I have downloaded modem, fingerprint and HP Quick Launch drivers.

Do i need to download others also.

    Thanks

    thanks for providing this ensemblage

    this wud be really helpful
but all this useful after xp has been installed in the machine
the problem i am facing with dv2601tx is that it wudnt let me install xp in the very place
it says there are no hard drives found on the system so setup can not continue and xp can not be installed on this computer

i seeked help on the internet earlier what i was advised was to enter the bios settings and change the settings either enabling or disabling SATA

and there is no option of enabling or disabling SATA in the BIOS settings when i enter them in the beginning at boot.

What do i need to do

  25. admin
    Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:29 am | Permalink

    you need not disable sata.
all you need to do is this

    it was great, thanks man

thanks for this tutorial it was excellent and this feedback and replies has really made it possible for many users like me to suucessfully get rid of the sluggish vista on the dv2601tx and install XP working sufficiently well

    thanks a ton

I wud like to add in it about the bluetooth as the vista bluetooth drivers are going work in it

in device management hp integrated module is there right click it
    and upgrade
select location and then guide where there iare the vista bluetooth drivers

in vista itself the blurtooth drivers are in the swsetup folder so obtain them from there

    @zubaid
you need not download other drivers.

  30. Posted March 6, 2009 at 9:37 am | Permalink

Sir, you didn’t answered my previous query. “i cannot see the same folders being created when i extract the zip files in their respective folders. i see folders being created with different names, but i have strictly followed your download links.”

For chipset i found “infinst_autol.exe” at the location you have provided, but when i see the image you have provided it clearly shows the name of the file as intel chipset Hawlett Packard.

Same thing happens for few of my other drivers also

for NVIDIA 32bit ForceWare GeForce Go 156.55 i could locate 15655.exe but i could not see it being mounted when i run nlite

For Marvell Yukon ethernet i was downloaded “setup_v10.66.4.3.zip” extracted it and again not being listed in nlite when attempted to mount.

For HP Quick Launch buttons and Quick Play. i found QLB.zip and QPW.zip at the location provided by you. Downloaded and extracted and same behavior when attmpted to mount though nlite

Can you please help me. I am frustrated with vista, i want to switch to XP as soon as possible. But every thing should work fine..

    Thanks

for audio there is a workaround.open device manager and click on the yellow icon which is appearing for the audio hardware and right click on it.now select “show driver location manually ” kind of option and select device type under audio devices, and choose conexant.and update the driver.

i actually dont remember the details well, but this is similar to the way we did it.
i would like to hear about your progess.

i bought this laptop 1 year back and i feel myself so unlucky for that..i used the laptop so neatly, there is not even 1 scratch but first of all battery has gone,i mean it s not charging at all and when the electricity goes off laptop is closing..an the main problem i suffered with nvidia graphichs..now im using the computer without installing the driver of graphic card..if i install it,the screen is stucks and failures..i went to technical service and they offered me to sell my laptop to them for 6k rupees and i laughed:) and the service guys told me,they are getting 100 laptops per day with the same problem i faced in hp 2500 series..anyway it will cost me 20k again to replace motherboard and a new battery..if anyone suffers the same problem as me, i suggest them to replace the motherboard which is without nvidia graphics so that they wont suffer again..thats what im gonna do..
